Port Burwell man pleaded guilty to crime-spree that stretched from Stratford to London

It was crime spree that ended with the $500,000 armed robbery of a Strathroy jewelry store.

Jeffrey Ysebert, 32, of Port Burwell, pleaded guilty to nine charges Thursday, more than a year after a harrowing afternoon at James O. Poag?s Jewellers, when two men ? one of them Ysebert ? barged in and began smashing show cases with a crowbar.

Along with the plea to armed robbery, Ysebert pleaded guilty to stealing a car from a London car dealership, stealing a pickup truck from a St. Marys car dealership, possession of stolen lottery tickets, two counts of gasoline theft, two counts of driving while disqualified and an armed robbery of a London convenience store.

Regional Crown counsel David Foulds outlined the facts for Ontario Court Justice Jeanine LeRoy.

Foulds said that on June 4, 2012, Ysebert and another man entered the jewelry store with their faces masked.

While they smashed the show cases, owner Jim Poag tried to call 911. One of the men smashed the phone.

Poag ushered his 10 staff into a back office while Ysebert and the other robber grabbed diamonds and diamond rings and shoved them into a duffel bag.

On the other side of the store, they smashed more cases and scooped up men?s and women?s gold chains.

The men left the store and ran to an alley where they were seen getting into a black Dodge Ram pickup truck. The licence plate number was given to police.

The plates had been stolen earlier in the day in Komoka. The truck was from St. Marys.

The Nissan Infiniti listed in Ysebert?s charges was stolen on May 16, 2012. Ysebert was caught on surveillance video stealing gas for the stolen car from Husky gas station and a Petro-Can gas station, both in London.

The Mac?s Milk robbery was on May 19, 2012. Ysebert and another man robbed the variety store, one of them armed with a baseball bat.

The lottery tickets found on Ysebert were stolen from a Mac?s convenience store in Watford that was robbed twice in May.

Ysebert is to be sentenced Aug. 14.

iMore weekly photo contest: Patriotism!

It isn't overdone but has just the right amount of editing work to really make not only the sunset but the landscape in front of it really pop and show every little detail. The balance is also cropped perfectly so you get enough of the sky to show that as the focus but enough of the landscape to really add detail to the photo overall.

It was captured with an iPhone 4S and edited with Camera+ and the native Photos app.

The rules

The rules of entry are very simple. The photo must have been taken with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch (we'll check the EXIF data of the original file to verify) and any edits must have been done with an iPhone or iPad app. No Photoshop, Lightroom, or other external editing programs! If you have external lens accessories such as an Olloclip or other snap-on lens, you are more than welcome to use them.

All the Amazing Facts About Your Fireworks Injury

Fireworks go boom, and when things go boom, sooner or later somebody gets hurt. For a blow-by-blow taxonomy of fireworks injuries, we turn the Consumer Protection Safety Commission, which each year documents the damage we do to ourselves around the Fourth of July.

In 2012, 60-percent of the year's fireworks injuries occurred between June 22nd and July 22nd, sending an average of 200 people per day to the hospital. The graphic above represents where on our bodies we managed to get hurt by fireworks last year. While we can't say for sure that people were being careless or stupid when these fireworks injuries happened, we can say that the numbers indicate that risky behavior leads to bad outcomes: All six fireworks-related deaths that happened last year involved illegal or homemade fireworks. Be safe out there people.

Now, we're not saying "don't do fireworks" because that's just ridiculous. We're just saying, let's make sure we're using our brains while doing them. And if your brain is all fuzzy because you ingested too much liquid patriotism, maybe it's better to stay away from the box of bottle rockets, which as we learn from the graphic above are responsible for 12-percent of reported injuries. Instacube delayed, refunds promised once units ship

While Instagram busies itself tackling the world of micro-video, D2M, the company behind Instacube, is struggling to bring its Android-based photo frame to market. Late last month, it took to Kickstarter to update funders on delays, with a message titled, bittersweetly "We're Still Here." The company noted that, due to some last minute manufacturing shakeups, it would be unable to ship the device in July. Earlier today, it used the same forum to expound upon those problems, stating that while "no issue is insurmountable," a fair amount needs to happen before the boxes can begin shipping. One, the right partner needs to be found and two, the company needs more funding. As such, D2M is currently seeking investors and partners for $250,000 to $350,000 in development funds and $600,000 for the first round of production.

Still no firm update on when the Instacube will ship, and while the company did say it will be offering refunds to irritated backers, they'll only be honored once said shipping actually occurs. Oh, and as for Instagram video support? It's a possibility -- just not at launch. Users will have to view videos as stills when the Instacubes first arrive.

Once an underdog in the Android world, Sony Mobile put out a strong showing earlier in the year with smartphones like the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. With these devices the Japanese manufacturer seeks to differentiate itself with high-quality materials and outstanding designs.
