Switching banks is a pain, but if you're tired of your current bank and need a new one, don't let your research end with a trip to a competitor's web site. Go in and talk to them, and negotiate with your current bank. US News notes that in-person conversations before switching are important, and you may even be able to negotiate better terms to keep you from switching.
The moral of the story here is that when you're frustrated with a bank's telephone support or you feel like the bank isn't doing what they should to keep you as a customer, sometimes the best thing to do is to go in and talk to the bank manager. Schedule a negotiation, and let them know you're thinking about leaving, but you would love to stay if they can work with you. Similarly, do your homework and chat with other competing banks to see what they're willing to offer, and use that as ammunition for your negotiations. In-person, not over the phone or via email, negotiations sometimes make all the difference.
Worst case scenario, you can always escalate your complaint to someone who'll take you seriously. If that doesn't work or you still want to switch, there are always credit unions.
