MCKINNEY - Along with her students, Kimberly Church from Evans Middle School in McKinney has been leading the way in energy conservation.
Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. After presenting their energy campaign, the school board approved Half-Watt Wednesdays and a Watt-Watchers program. Half-Watt Wednesdays is a program where the school runs on half of its lights each Wednesday. Watt-Watchers is a student-led program that encourages staff to turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.
Students also created an app called "Energy Watchers." The app educates users on energy consumption and allows users to track daily energy use.
Church and her students also have big plans in the works. They want to install special tiles in the school's busiest hallway that would create energy from footsteps.?
Congratulations Kimberly Church for being one of the 2013 Eco-Educators!
