Author challenges White House to show timeline of bin Laden raid

The author of a new book describing presidential paralysis prior to the May 2011 raid on Osama bin Laden?s hideout is demanding the White House back up its vehement denials with documentation.

?I call on them to release the full [planning] timeline, starting in October 2010, of each of the major decisions that the president made relating to the bin Laden mission,? author Richard Miniter told The Daily Caller.

TheDC asked Miniter if his inside sources might go public with their accounts of presidential indecision. ?Yes, yes,? he replied. ?There is a chance.? (RELATED:?Book: Obama canceled Bin Laden ?kill? raid three times at Jarrett?s urging)

Any confrontation between national security officials and President Barack Obama in the months preceding the 2012 election could hamper to his chances of winning a second term.

That?s partly because Obama and his deputies have repeatedly cited his risky decision to kill al-Qaida?s leader as a counterweight to growing worries about his non-confrontational response to the region?s rising Islamist political groups.

The White House?s principal deputy press secretary, Josh Earnest, today dismissed the revelation in Miniter?s book that Valerie Jarrett, Obama?s top aide, helped delay the raid by persuading Obama to call it off on three separate occasions.

?That is an utter fabrication,? Earnest said.

?It seems pretty clear that Mr. Miniter doesn?t know what he?s talking about,? he insisted, adding that Jarrett ?was not ?read in? on the operation on the mission against Osama bin Laden.?

?So I wouldn?t put any stock into that vignette ? or into the book itself,? he added.

Earnest?s answer was focused on Jarrett?s role. He did not explicitly deny Miniter?s revelation that the raid was delayed three times.

The White House?s claim that Jarrett was not read into the meeting is a ?red herring,? Miniter insisted.

That?s because the ?read-in? phrase means an official is briefed about operational details, such as flight paths, nearby reinforcements and back-up plans. Miniter has?not suggested that Jarrett was provided with those military details.

His book, ?Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors Who Decide for Him,? says Obama delayed the raid three times amid pushback from his aide Jarrett. It is set for release August 21.

The long-time political adviser met Obama when they were both advancing upwards in Chicago?s political machine.

?Obama canceled the mission three times at the urging of Valerie Jarrett, according to an official ? who had knowledge of the operation,? Miniter wrote.

Obama ?called a halt to preparations three times,? Miniter reiterated this afternoon during a phone interview. ?Everything froze in place for weeks as people had to persuade him to get back on the train and get moving again.?

The revelations about his indecision came from ?a number of career and political sources,? Miniter said ? not just the single source his book mentions.

News of the book?s claims, first reported by The Daily Caller, has boosted the title?s sales ranking at Amazon.com. It now sits behind only Edward Klein?s ?The Amateur? among titles covering the White House and the rest of the U.S. government?s executive branch.

Minter?s insider-based revelations about Obama?s indecision are buttressed by official weather reports from the Air Force.

Those weather reports refute the White House?s post-raid explanation for a fourth last-minute delay in launching the raid.

The White House has claimed that 24-hour delay was caused by bad weather.

But the Air Force had actually reported favorable weather in the area around bin Laden?s Pakistan hideout, Miniter said.

The unclassified report of favorable weather ?was provided to my by the U.S. Air Force Combat Meteorological Center, and is the same report from the same weather stations that were reviewed by the planners of the mission to kill bin Laden? just prior to the 24-hour delay, Miniter said.

The author, whose past books include multiple New York Times nonfiction best-sellers about Islamists? war on the United States, challenged the White House to release the official timeline of the raid?s preparations.

?We?ll see whether their official timeline is actually different from my story in any significant way,? said Miniter.

His book?s revelations also threaten to cut to the heart of Obama?s claim of national-security competence.

The president and his deputies frequently tout the successful killing of bin Laden as evidence that his Arab-region policies are working. Vice President Joe Biden has even compressed his stump speech into a nine-word sentence: ?Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.?

But Obama?s claims are undermined by the visibly rising power of Islamist political parties, and by Iran?s rush to develop nuclear weapons.

Those parties, principally the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood, are gaining power in Egypt and Tunisia, and also reaching for power in Syria and Afghanistan, long after bin Laden was killed in May 2011. An Islamist party, though a more moderate one, now leads a coalition government in Morocco as well. (RELATED: What Barack Obama can learn from Morocco)

Obama?s policy treats Brotherhood-related parties as potential partners, and focuses U.S. military and economic power against al-Qaida and Iran.

But the Brotherhood?s parties and al-Qaida?s jihadis share a similar goal ? Islamic rule over society ? even as they differ over how to achieve it.

Brotherhood officials say they can win power via elections, while al-Qaida?s Islamists split from the Brotherhood in the 1970s, claiming the best way to win power in Arab countries is by launching attacks against the United States.

The public?s reaction to evidence of presidential indecision will also likely be sharpened by Obama?s repeated personal claims for credit.

That self-promotion has even prompted a scathing response from some of his political allies. ?To turn it [the bin Laden raid] into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do,? Arianna Huffington, founder of The Huffington Post, said in April.

Her comment was showcased in an ad from Veterans for a Strong America, a 501(c)(4) lobbying organization that is not required to publicly disclose its donor list.

In response to criticisms, Obama has dialed back his claims of credit ? but not his exclusive focus on al-Qaida.

?Not only have we given Iraqis an opportunity to determine their own destiny, but we were able to refocus our attention on al-Qaida, the folks who actually carried out the 9/11 attacks. ? We?ve got them on their heels and decimated their leadership, including Osama bin Laden,? the president said during a New Orleans fundraiser on July 15.

Ottis Gibson credits bowlers for emphatic win over New Zealand ? Cricket News Update

The West Indies head coach, Ottis Gibson, on Sunday credited Kemar Roach led bowling attack for the emphatic nine-wicket win over New Zealand in the opening Test of the two-match series, played at North Sound, Antigua, between July 25 and 29.

Speaking to the media reporters after the resounding victory, the Windies coach said that his bowlers remained aggressive all through the match and did not let the Kiwi batsmen break free during a single session in their both innings.

"I thought Kemar Roach bowled a spell at the back end of the first innings that was a very aggressive spell that got us some key wickets Ravi,? said Gibson on Sunday. ?Rampaul was very aggressive today. Kemar was very accurate. [Man of the Match] Sunil Narine made contributions,? he added further.

Mystery spinner Sunil Narine claimed his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket during New Zealand?s first innings, as the tourists were rolled over for 351. The hosts then rode on startling centuries from openers Chris Gayle (150) and Kieran Powell (134), to amass 522 runs in their first innings. Assad Fudadin, Narsingh Deonarine and skipper Darren Sammy all contributed with calculated half centuries.

It was spearhead pace bowler Kemar Roach who led the assault in New Zealand?s second innings, claiming his fifth five-wicket haul of the Test career, as the tourists were reduced to 272. Gayle struck another half century in the second innings, as the Caribbean side cruised home comfortably, with five wickets intact.

"If they were scoring, that would have put us under a little bit more pressure," said Gibson. "Once we started to get a few wickets - which was always going to happen - the target we?re going to have to chase wasn't going to be so much. If they?re scoring, then, it would have been a different story," he added further.

What makes the nine-wicket win at North Sound, Antigua more significant for the hosts is that it is West Indies?s first Test win over the Black Caps since 1996.

The second and final Test of the series gets underway at Sabina park, Kingston, Jamaica from August 2.

Geithner meeting German finance minister, Draghi

(AP) ? U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is to meet his German counterpart and the head of the European Central Bank following a flurry of pledges to save the euro that have raised expectations of action by European policymakers.

U.S. and German officials say Geithner will meet German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble Monday on the North Sea island of Sylt, where Schaeuble is vacationing. Geithner will then travel to Frankfurt to meet ECB President Mario Draghi.

Markets surged after Draghi said last Thursday that the ECB would do "whatever it takes" to preserve the euro. Over the following days, the leaders of Germany, France and Italy also pledged to do all they can to protect the eurozone.

That raised expectations that the bank might buy Spanish and perhaps Italian government bonds.

Can a Man and Woman have a Platonic Relationship - Why Leave ...

http://www.chooseafamily.com/

A platonic relationship is one that exists between a man and woman that is devoid of any sexual intimacy; being friends without benefits, as it is known today. Is it unrealistic to think that a man and woman can maintain a purely non-sexual relationship? I believe they can if, and only if, those feelings that first attracted them to each other do not evolve into deeper, more romantic feelings. That seems like stating the obvious, but the point we need to keep in mind is that the attraction between a man and a woman may have different motives. For example, a woman might be initially attracted to a man's good looks, and a man may say it is the same for him, except for the fact that his attraction would be heavily influenced, or driven, by his male sexuality, the sensual aspect of his physical attraction to the female. If, however, the man is not physically attracted to the woman, the chances are better that a platonic relationship can be sustained. However, even if their relationship is based on mutual attraction without sexual overtones, the possibility of a platonic relationship maturing into a romantic one still exists. The feelings of closeness, resulting from intimate conversations, can easily blossom into a romantic relationship right under their noses, without either one knowing or recognizing the change. And, once that occurs, the inevitable sexual intimacy follows and the platonic relationship ends and the romantic relationship begins.

A few indicators of crossing the line between platonic and romantic relationships include: greeting each other with lingering hugs and kisses; frequenting the same restaurant and having intimate conversations over dinner, holding hands while walking; maintaining contact with each other throughout the day and before going to bed, via text messaging or cell phone. Behaviors such as these are not platonic, they are intimate. Because neither party has made sexual advances doesn't mean they won't do so when the time is felt to be right, and when it does happen, more than likely it will have been instigated by the party who initiates the dance of seduction.

It's a fact that most relationships begin as platonic but quickly take a different turn if the individual is driven by romantic motives from the very beginning. A man and woman may start their relationship on a platonic level with one or both maintaining a cautious attitude as they explore each other's nature and personality. Eventually, if their mutual attraction grows stronger, they will raise the level of their relationship to a romantic one. Most people joining social network sites are looking for deeper relationships than just platonic and, as long as each party knows what is expected, these avenues of social interaction can be very fulfilling, of course with the caveat that one takes the necessary precautions inherent in interaction on a website.

pest control Islington, Islington pest - Get Rid of Rats through Pest ...

Why Is Controlling Rats Important?

Rats leave bacteria that can cause diseases such as the deadly Leptospirosis, typhus fever, and rat-bite fever. Rats transmit disease through numerous ways: their hair, their droppings and their urine. If food or water that has been contaminated is consumed, it could also cause food poisoning.

Moreover, if you own a rental property or a business establishment, the sight of rat would most likely drive your potential and existing customers away. Thus, for a business, controlling or totally eliminating these pests from your building is of utmost importance.

Other than that, rats are quite destructive in many ways. They not only dig holes or create holes in your walls or cabinets, but their droppings and urine can also affect the air quality inside your home.

With all these hazards that such rodents can cause, it is indeed very important not to take them for granted. If you see rats running inside your home or you start seeing signs of existence of rats, doing pest control methods to get rid of rats immediately will definitely save you from all possible dangers it can cause later on. The good news is that if you live in Islington and nearby areas in the UK, there are reputable and experienced pest control Islington companies you can turn to in solving this problem. Through a comprehensive and efficient pest control service, you can easily get rid of rats from your home. Most importantly, you do not have to worry about decomposing rats that create a strong unpleasant odor, as most pest control companies can take care of this thing for you.

When Is the Best Time to Contact an Islington Pest control Islington?

You will probably need more professional help in late summer or early autumn, which is the breeding time of rats. However, if you see signs of rats' presence in your house or building, you can always contact a pest control company for help. This is most especially important if you see them running around during the day. Because rats are mostly active at night, seeing them running in your home during the day is a strong indication that they are plenty of them.

Why Should You Not Exterminate Rats Yourself?

Exterminating rats is a tough and messy job. Using of traps, for instance, only usually get the rats by the neck. So doing the job yourself also means not only trapping them but also dealing with the dead rats and disposing them properly. If you don't do it properly, you might even contact bacteria that can cause diseases.

Moreover, these traps are only good if you only have one or two rats running around. But if there are plenty of rats inside your house, the mechanical methods of getting rid of rats might not work well and you might need more advanced methods, such as using of chemical sprays that only licensed pest control companies have access to.

If you start seeing signs of rats in your home or business, seek professional help from a reliable pest control Islington company immediately. A good Islington pest control firm knows various methods on how to kill rats and prevent them from coming back.

Promotional Rugby Ball - What to consider when choosing a ball for ...

Promotional balls When the administration of a team considers purchasing equipment for the players, quality is always first on their mind. A good ball for example must be well sown and made from the best type of leather. The dimensions should be perfect and the size and weight should meet the requirements set by various sports governing bodies. The shape should also be considered since different types of balls have different types of shapes. A mini rugby ball for example is oval shaped and is made from rubber.

However, apart from these requirements, a ball could also have an attractive look and feel to it. This helps to make the ball more dynamic and appealing as well as more vibrant as it is thrown from one end of the field to another. For this, a rugby team, for example, could choose to purchase a promotional rugby ball. These balls usually feature various graphics and color finishes as well as different types of paint and pictures. All these are aimed at ensuring that the ball is appealing to the eye of the beholder.

There are various designs that are used and the administration of the team could choose the one that they fancy most. However, the administration could also choose to customize the design to meet their promotional needs. The ball could include a logo from a well known organization in the colors and designs of the organization. Such a ball will meet all the requirements of a regular ball in terms of weight and size, but the color and graphics on it will be different.

The type of sport When purchasing a ball, it is important to consider the type of sport that the ball will be used in. This is because balls that are used in the game of football are very different from balls that are used in the game of basketball. This is because a basketball is handled by hand and therefore it should have more grips, than a soccer ball which is played using the foot. Other types of sports require balls that differ in terms of weight, shape, size and even material. It is therefore important for the administration of sports clubs to be familiar with this before they purchase a ball.

Ball manufacturers Furthermore, it is important to have information on the different ball manufacturers on your fingertips. This is because reputation is also important when choosing where to buy a sports ball from. For example, some netball manufacturers are known for making high quality balls that are durable and easy to play with. However, others do not have the same reputation as they may have made less appealing balls in the past. The administration should therefore do their homework and determine which manufacturers are the best when it comes to making the types of balls that they want.

4 Easy Ways Small Business Can Use Social Media for Real-time ...

With over 20 years in marketing and communications, I know the value of market research. ?When I worked in large organizations, we hired agencies to provide specialized research services. But when I was in smaller businesses, we didn?t have that luxury. In fact, I didn?t have any budget for research, so we did it ourselves. This was often time-consuming work that often got put on the backburner to deal with emerging issues.

Thankfully social media has made it much easier for small businesses to do their own market research. The following four tools are just some that I have used and could easily be applied to nearly every small business.

1. ?Leverage membership in existing groups like Facebook and Linkedin or even through blogs to gain valuable insight into what topics are hot. Being an active listener you can find emerging themes, and if there is one specific issue that has everyone?s ear.

For example, if you own an art gallery and you want to know what people are interested in, you will have first-hand intelligence to the buzz. ?Or, perhaps there are new and emerging artists that are all the rage.? You may want to feature them before anyone else scoops them up. ?In both cases, this information is both real-time and specific to your interests.

2. Conduct Facebook surveys to reach out to your followers and ask them specific questions ? keep the same questions so that you have consistent data. One of the benefits of doing this type of research versus a focus group is that neither the facilitator nor any other members of the focus group will unintentionally influence the participants. You can have your survey be anonymous or with a customer name attached to it.

For example maybe you want to determine whether or not you should carry a new product.? While it seems like a good idea, you just aren?t certain that your customers will want it. ?You can develop a simple questionnaire that you can send to all your followers/subscribers or those who have ?Liked? your Brand Page. ?By reaching out to your customers you are demonstrating that their opinion matters and you get to hear from them first-hand what they think about the product.

For more information on how to set up your survey, visit Facebook?s survey page.

3. Use Pinterest to determine what photos are being pinned from your website. ?This can be an invaluable tool. Learn what is popular and by default, what is not. ?Learn what is resonating with your customers through your visuals.

It is quite easy to do: simply go to your browser and type: ?http://pinterest.com/source/YOURWEBSITEHERE.com/.

4. Use Twitter Hashtags to search and track relevant conversations. ?You can use hashtags to monitor conversations about competitors, different product lines, events and more. ?You can use existing hashtags or set up your own. ?They are simple to use.

For example, if you are hosting a conference and you want to know what the buzz is both leading up to and during the event, you could create a hashtag specific to your event. ?Once you do this, be sure to share it with your organizers, sponsors, delegates, etc. ?It could be as simple as #conferencename2012. ?By simply searching your event hashtag, you can monitor all the chatter. ?If you notice a problem emerging, you can be proactive and take action.? You can then share the solution using the hashtag, letting your delegates know that you were listening. ?You can also use the hashtag to monitor post-event conversations and use that intelligence for lessons-learned.

These are just four examples of how you can use social media for real-time market research. ?What are some other channels that you use and what have been your results?
